VIDEO: Alleged police rape triggers massive protest in Abia Polytechnic

Abia Polytechnic students, Thursday, shut down the Aba-Owerri axis after a police officer allegedly raped one of their colleagues.

The officer, reports say, was a member of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit that was notorious for brutality, extortion and extrajudicial killings.

Police officers shot into the air to scare the protesting students away but it was too late as the crowd shut down Aba-Owerri road.

The students also used the demonstration to appeal Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu to facilitate the accreditation of several Engineering courses.
