The Lagos State Government has shut down Vedic Lifecare Hospital in Lekki.
The shutdown was executed by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA).
Executive secretary of the agency, Dr Abiola Idowu, said the hospital was sanctioned for employing expatriates who were not certified to practice medicine in Nigeria. L
“The facility was shut down for engaging three foreign doctors and a nurse with unverified certificates and without licenses from any professional body,” she noted.
Patients receiving medical care previously are unaffected, she said.
She noted that authorities have discovered that some facilities bring in foreign-based transient medical doctors who treat patients, perform medical procedures and leave the country after a few weeks or months.
Chairman, HEFAMAA Governing Board, Dr Yemisi Solanke-Koya, said there will be continuous regulatory oversight of hospitals in Lagos.
The chairman warned that hospitals in Lagos should desist from using foreigners whose certificates and licenses have not been verified by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
