VIDEO: Seyi Vibez, others run into bush as EFCC, Yahoo boys, police, soldiers open fire on each other at Conference Hotel, Abeokuta

Guests were forced to flee into bushes as operatives of the Economic of Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Conference Hotel in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital overnight.

The hotel is owned by former Ogun governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel who decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) not too long ago.

The EFCC officers reportedly broke into rooms and seized phones and other valuables without presenting any warrant. They also seized at least 20 cars from alleged internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys.

The operatives met some resistance from soldiers and police officers and fired at them for trying to intervene. The soldiers and police officers also reportedly fired back.

Some students who were alleged to be Yahoo boys also reportedly fired back at the EFCC operatives.

The raid began just before midnight on Saturday and continued into the early hours of Sunday.

Entertainer Seyi Vibez was performing at an award event in one of the halls of the hotel when the shooting began and sustained minor injuries in a bid to run for his life, a video shared with our correspondent showed.

Award attendees were forced to flee as the shooting disrupted the event.

“Unfortunately, there was so much shooting and I had to run into the bush,” he said in the video which showed him visibly distressed and sweaty.

“I’m so scared right now and I have to start going back to my house.”

In another video shared online, shots could be heard around the hotel as the person shooting the footage hid at a corner for safety. Several ladies and others could also be seen running for dear lives.

This is not the first time the EFCC would raid hotels, bars, nightclubs and other entertainment venues in bids to nab suspected fraudsters, with the public condemning their ‘Gestapo’ style.

The EFCC recently raided the home of a female journalist while she was naked in bed.

In September, the EFCC raided several spots in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, but reportedly spared Conference Hotel for political reasons.
