Babatunde Omidina: How US-based son made family postpone Baba Suwe’s burial

Had it not been for frantic calls made from the United States, late Nollywood legend Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, would have been buried already.

Baba Suwe breathed his last on Monday and should have been committed to the earth on the same day according to Islamic rites.

But the Muslim clerics who were ready to do the needful had to wait after one of Baba Suwe’s sons pleaded for the rites to be postponed, ENigeria Newspaper reported.

Adesola Omidina persuaded the family to shift the burial to November 25 (Thursday), the paper reported.

“Burial arrangements for late Alhaji Babatunde Nurudeen Omidina (a.k.a Baba Suwe). Interment will commence at his residence, 26, Oluwatimiro Street, Ewu Elepe Bustop, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, Lagos on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at 10 am prompt.

“The final funeral ceremony will be announced later. Baba Suwe is survived by children, grandchildren, aged mother and family,” the family later said after deciding to wait for Adesola to fly to Nigeria.

There are reports that some clerics threatened to pull of the burial rites because Baba Suwe should have been buried earlier according to Islamic rites.

Baba Suwe’s family members are, however, of the opinion that Adesola should be accorded the privilege to pay his last respects to his late father before the Nollywood legend is committed to the earth.
