Muhammed Yakubu: US honours Nigerian soldier for fighting extremism

The United State of America has honored AVM Muhammed Yakubu with “The Legion of Merit” Award.

This award was presented by Gen. Jeffrey Harrigian, the Commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa. Awarded by the 27th U.S. Secretary of Defence on Monday, August 30.

Air Vice Marshall Mohammed Aminu Yakubu received the award in honour of his exceptional service as Nigerian Defence and Air Attaché to the United States.

While presenting the award, Harrigian commended Yakubu that he has greatly improved his motherland, Nigeria, which has helped to gain U.S support to help Nigeria fight against violent extremism during his tenure.

He also added that was one who coordinated several U.S. government agencies for the first visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States.

Furthermore, he coordinated the first-ever visit of a Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff to the U.S. Africa Command in Germany.

His portrayal of outstanding leadership, personal initiative reflect great credit upon himself, the Nigerian Air Force, and his country, all these is what has earned him one of the U.S. military’s most prestigious awards, The Legion of Merit.
