Ikoyi building collapse: Governor Sanwo-Olu suspends LASBCA boss as death toll rises to 15, families protest

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has suspended the general manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki.

The suspension comes in the aftermath of a tragic building collapse in Ikoyi. It also came a few hours after families and friends protested against rescue workers for reportedly taking a break at the scene of the collapse on Tuesday.

Oki had also said that owners FourScore Heights Limited got approval for 15 floors but decided to construct 21. His comment was, however, contradicted by that of deputy governor Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat who said 21 floors were approved for the structure.

At least 15 persons have been confirmed dead so far, Guardian Nigeria reported, and nine recovered alive from the ruins. Other reports put the death toll at 14.
