Lawmakers impeach Zamfara deputy governor, Aliyu Gusau, who refused to decamp to APC

Zamfara lawmakers have impeached Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.

Gusau had parted ways with Governor Bello Matatwalle after he refused to join the defecting governor and other elected officials who decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.

The state assembly, in a statement by Shamsudeen Basko, House Standing Committee Chairman, said Gusau was accused of abusing office, criminal self-enrichment, abusing public funds and failure to discharge official duties.

Gusau was impeached during the plenary after the assembly received the report of the committee.

The seven-man investigative panel was set up by the chief judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to investigate the allegations against Gusau.
